It’s not easy doing Work aligned to your essential nature, i.e. to do your Soul Work. It’s not something you learn at school. In fact, school positively encourages the opposite, subtly moulding you to fit in the box that society has created.
Although it’s changing, education often doesn’t teach you to think for yourself and introspect to discover who you truly are and what you want to do.
Doing your Soul Work takes courage. It’s a hero’s journey to discover what makes you tick, the gifts in you have hidden in plain sight, like water for a fish and the things you’re willing to fight for. But maybe you are held back with self-doubt, insecurity and fear of going against the grain.
Even after you’ve come so far, there are further challenges. So you know who you are, you know what matters to you, you know the gifts and tools at your disposal, like a superhero aware of their special powers.
Be the change
But then what?
Imagine the superhero lounging around at the beach in her super outfit, drinking mojitos, week after week. The story is incomplete. Sure, she’s struggled against herself in her inner journey, but no superhero is really complete without an external challenge or arch enemy.
So too with you! To do your Soul Work, there has to be a challenge or problem that you overcome, on the outside.
Successful entrepreneurs in a way are superheroes. They overcome inner challenges to become who they truly are and also find and solve a problem or need that the world desires.
True, not all entrepreneurs are altruistic, many are out to make a buck for themselves and not much else. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Many companies were started because of a vision/desire to change the world in some way for the better.
As I see it, apart from the problem of climate change, we are faced with a related and underlying issue, that of creating an economy which is both sustainable and satisfying on a personal, societal and environmental level.
So, as a superhero…
