The beginning of the year is replete with expectation of changes, resolutions, new hopes and dreams. You’re definitely not wondering how you can waste another year of your life. However, by now maybe some are already flagging.
The Lo-jong is a mind training practice from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Based on a set of 59 aphorisms originally formulated in the 12th century, these pithy sayings are designed to awaken the mind, helping you evolve.
So, I’ve created the anti-lo-jong.
Perhaps you’ll recognise yourself in some of my phrases, and it might be the kick up the backside, to move out of procrastination, and revive or sustain the plans you made for 2020.
This is a humorous list of ways in which we procrastinate and stop ourselves moving forward with what we planned to do!
Ways we Procrastinate – Kick in the backside Lo-jong
1) Take advice from everyone except yourself
2) Beat yourself up for the mistakes you make
3) Say yes to everything and everyone
4) Give up on the things you start
5) Stay busy so that you don’t notice what you really long for
6) Occupy all your time doing things that you don’t really care about
7) Sabotage yourself with addictions
8) Make sure no-one knows how you truly feel, even yourself, if you can manage it
9) Whatever you do, don’t make a start! Delay as much as you can because you’re scared.
10) Stay on the fence with a lot of options never committing to anything
11) Live in constant Fear Of Missing Out
12) Never show your work until it’s absolutely perfect
13) Be absolutely rigid in your how your life should unfold
14) Make sure you surround yourself with people who bring you down
15) Constantly think and dream about what you want, but don’t take any steps
16) Don’t take the slightest bit of notice to what your body is telling you
17) Distract yourself with mindless TV and endless Social Media scrolling
… I could go on…

A lot of these, I have to admit, are based on personal experience! Perhaps you have other ways in which you procrastinate. Seeing them with a bit of humour could be a first step to moving out of procrastination and achieving your goals.
