Something amazing could be just around the corner! Don’t give up! Keep going!
It’s funny how life sometimes presents the most bizarre ways to help you see new things.
One such example for me was when I was doing the “Camino de Santiago”, a 1000 km walk in the north of Spain. An amazing experience, by the way, should you wish to learn lessons in life and about yourself!
I was more than 80% of the way to completing the Camino.
I’d been separated from a few people that I’d met, made friends with, and had been walking with. This was due to having problems with my legs. I’d refused to take along walking sticks, feeling that I didn’t need them, and they would just get in the way.
After 700km, my stubbornness had to finally surrender. I had to just accept that I couldn’t continue with my newly-made friends and reluctantly say goodbye, and was forced to rest for a couple of days.
But well, at least now, I was walking again. Albeit, alone! Well, I had a stick for company that I’d fashioned in the woods in an emergency a few days ago, when my knee finally gave in to the punishment I was inflicting on it, by not listening!
Don’t give up!
After a day of walking, I was just arriving at a hostel.
It seemed like the place in the guidebook that I was looking for. On entry to the place, it seemed rather shabby. There was absolutely no one staying there. I had a kind of sinking feeling, but I thought it might be difficult to find another place, which could involve a lot more walking. So, I resigned myself to staying, deciding that this place was my only option.
I was shown to my room, and decided to have a shower.
I was promised that the place had hot water, however, I discovered that this was a fallacy. It was freezing cold! Considering the place was in the middle of nowhere, my only option for food was what the owner offered me. Not exactly gourmet cuisine! My misery dived deeper.
Well, at least I’d eaten something, and decided to call it a day and sleep.
Onward and upward
The next day, I was up early, eager to get out of the place! After only a few hundred metres,
I saw a building, which was quite literally only 200m, further down the path, from the place I’d stayed.
It was a very cute little hut made from wood, which I loved the look of. It seemed to be a self-contained hut that slept 4 people. This was the official hostel I was looking for! It was cheaper than what I’d paid, and on going in, I found one of my friends that I had been separated from a few days ago!
I’d been sitting in misery, when I could have been in heaven, only 200m around the corner!
The lesson I learnt from this was that, perhaps, I should have listened to the feeling that I had. I could have listened to my intuition. That I can dare to move, change, trust and know that I don’t have to settle. That I’m deserving of more, that good things can be around the corner, even when things look dire.
I have seen many concrete examples of this in my life, often when it looked like it couldn’t be worse.
So, don’t give up! Look around the corner!
