In his book, Power vs Force, David R. Hawkins, ventures forth exploring the territory of human consciousness, using applied kinesiology to map out the different positions from which we can face life. In one of the most fascinating maps I’ve come across, he maps not physical terrain but consciousness itself. He charts the vibrations from fear, via courage to love.
From Fear to Love: A path
At level 500 on the chart we find Love. The author suggests that, “Loving is a state of being”, its source being with the person who loves, rather than being dependent on external conditions. “Love is not intellectual and does not proceed from the mind. Love emanates from the heart.”
What’s interesting is that he goes on to say that at this level of development, there arises a capacity for “direct discernment of essence”, aka intuition, “the capacity for instantaneous understanding without resorting to sequential symbol process.”
In other words, when we’re motivated from Love we open to Intuition.
The pivot point on the chart is at level 200: Courage. He describes courage in this way, “There is the capacity to face fears or character defects and to grow despite them; anxiety also does not cripple endeavor as it would at the lower levels of evolution.” There is an awareness of the fear but not a being taken over by it. We are present.
Interestingly, the word courage, is rooted in the latin for heart, cor.
Courage can be an antidote to level 100: Fear. Something I have to say, is often my companion.
How to move from Fear to Courage to Love? This is a journey I want to make. This map seems to indicate a pathway.
Even trembling with Fear we can reach up the chart opening up with Compassion to our current state.
Fear is a shrinking back, a limiting, often a contraction. The difference between Fear and Courage seems to be one of our capacity to face what we are confronted with.
We can act from Fear, and in fact, if you look around it can be the motivator behind many of our actions. However, instead of an endless, frantic doing, powered by Fear, we can move to a brave righteous doing motivated by Love.
We can take our hand, calm our mind, open our heart to our current predicament, with heart or mind racing, turning towards, holding fast, becoming present to what is here. Allowing compassion to enter, thereby empowering ourselves to move forward boldly with heart.
How? By listening to the heart, letting it speak! Letting it be in the driver’s seat.
Bringing attention there, resting in its sanctuary, we can move to the intuitive impulses of the heart!
