I’m sitting here waiting for inspiration! My mind stuck, uninspired. Thoughts flitting around, wandering, bewildered, perhaps paralysed by choice. Stuck in the trap of not taking action!
Of, not taking action, because of a lack of clarity as to which direction to move in. How can I take action when I don’t know what action to take, my mind objects! This seems perfectly valid.
But what to do when you don’t know what to do!
Meditation, being quiet and listening seem like options. That has definitely worked in the past. However, today, even that isn’t throwing up new ideas. So, do I simply sit around waiting? Do I wait for inspiration to hit me like a ray of lightning, so I can start?
Like a painter standing in front of a blank canvas, waiting for inspiration to paint, I could be standing here for an eternity, scared to make a mark. Paralysed by fear, fearful of making a mistake, when the only mistake could be to not make a start. I’m sure you’d find many a masterpiece, when examined under the surface, you’d see changes in direction and overpainting of every aspect.
How to get started? I need a proverbial rock! A rock to be thrown in the pond of stagnation to get things moving, even if initially in an unknown direction.
Flow & Feedback
Maybe you just have to get involved… get in on the action. Get into the River. Getting wet, allowing yourself to be tossed by the current, to be scared… to be carried. Once in the river, there’s probably more chance you’ll know what’s next. The blood will definitely be flowing! You’ll soon know what to do! I mean, if a crocodile appears ahead, you might want to take evasive action. Or if it’s a raft, clamber on top of it. Either way, you’ll be in the flow, getting feedback!
To me, the Universe seems like it’s a dynamic unfolding process, in constant creation, of which I’m an intrinsic part. A process in which we can tune in to, sensing our way, dynamically adjusting in this flow. A part of the design, even the act of walking is a kind of falling over constantly, but recovering to make the next step.
Nature appears to make “mistakes”, backtracks and adjustments. Perhaps this is what happened to the dinosaurs, an experiment overpainted! Hopefully the same won’t be said of us!
So what do you do when you’re stuck in the trap of not taking action?
Maybe take some steps. Any steps. See where they lead you. I’m sure the view will be different up ahead, and who knows what you’ll see from this new vantage point. You might even see something you never in a million years would have expected to see.
Not knowing, as long as it doesn’t paralyse you and is embraced, is an asset not a liability. It’s in the space of not knowing that all creative thought is born – where all the magic occurs!
So, go ahead… throw some paint at the canvas!
